BS&#8230; you&#8217;re frantically working a project deadline, and suddenly a wrench is thrown in&#8230; \u00a0Someone&#8217;s interpersonal issues with another person, unnecessary red-tape or bureaucracy, inadequate equipment for the job. \u00a0Basically BS&#8230;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div><strong>Description of the Indicator:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>The BS-to-Productivity indicator is a measure of the degree to which a project has gone off course. \u00a0While some BS is completely unavoidable, BS&#8217;s lasting and debilitating effect on a project can rapidly deteriorate the life of the project and very quickly turn a simple project into an everlasting nightmare with no end in sight!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>How to read it:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>There are three segments of the ratio (see chart 1).<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Segment 1: Little BS. \u00a0With a little BS, a project can continue without losing any productivity.\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_6\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/importantindicators.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ImportantIndicators_2011001_A.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-6\" title=\"ImportantIndicators_2011001_A\" src=\"http:\/\/importantindicators.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ImportantIndicators_2011001_A-150x150.png\" alt=\"ImportantIndicators_2011001_A - Chart 1\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/importantindicators.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ImportantIndicators_2011001_A-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/importantindicators.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ImportantIndicators_2011001_A-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/importantindicators.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ImportantIndicators_2011001_A.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chart 1 &#8211; The Ratio<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>\n<li>Segment 2: At a certain amount of BS, a project goes through the &#8220;Point of Early Despair&#8221;. \u00a0This is a point where you can still avoid a total loss on the project by implementing certain techniques (each situation is unique). \u00a0However, increased amounts of BS will accelerate the loss of productivity.<\/li>\n<li>Segment 3: Finally, a project that is not able to avoid the increased BS through segment 2, will soon cross the &#8220;Point of Total Despair&#8221;. \u00a0This really is a point of no return, where there is no hope to ever achieve productivity on this particular project. \u00a0Few projects are able to ever recover from crossing the &#8220;Point of Total Despair&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/importantindicators.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ImportantIndicators_2011001_B.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-7\" title=\"ImportantIndicators_2011001_B\" src=\"http:\/\/importantindicators.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ImportantIndicators_2011001_B-150x150.png\" alt=\"Chart 2 - Relationship over time\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/importantindicators.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ImportantIndicators_2011001_B-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/importantindicators.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ImportantIndicators_2011001_B-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/importantindicators.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/ImportantIndicators_2011001_B.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chart 2 &#8211; Relationship over time<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Special attention needs to be given to the BS\/Productivity&#8217;s ratio impact over time. \u00a0A project with a small BS\/Productivity ratio can recover from the amount of BS. \u00a0A project with moderate BS will take longer to complete and the effects are never quite shaken. \u00a0Finally, a project with a large amount of BS\/Productivity ratio ends up getting derailed and is virtually irrecoverable (see chart 2)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Usage:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>BS-to-Productivity is rapidly approaching infinity<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introduction: We&#8217;ve all come across it&#8230;
